Hypsometric Maps

http://www.reliefshading.com/examples/mteverest.html
Hypsometric maps are surface maps that show relief by contours, hachures, shading, or tinting. This hypsometric map portrays the elevation of the Himalayan mountain range and  at the top left is Nupte (mountain), which is a bit south west of Mt. Everest. The hachures and contour lines help convey the high elevations, and the tints and shading help distinguish between the glacier valleys and the mountain peaks.
